NBC?s Stars Earn Stripes Cast Revealed

The summer reality show from NBC Stars Earn Stripes doesn?t begin until August 13th but we have learned what celebs will try their hand at being in the military. Who are these stars and can they hack it in the armed forces? In what will not doubt be an intense show that quite honestly is causing some controversy, some Z-list stars are going be put through the ringer in an intense military training program. Now before I give you more deats on this show let me tell you who is trying to earn their stripes so to speak. Laila Ali Dean Cain Terry Crews Nick Lachey Todd Palin PicabStreet Dolvett Quince Eve Torres Yep there are the eight stars and I use that term loosely who are going to see if they can handle military training. Secure Virtual Desktop

When you're connected to free Wi-Fi in a dubious Internet caf?, it's probably not the best time to log in to your bank or download documents from work. Sometimes, though, you just don't have access to a connection with better security. If you really need to transmit sensitive communications over an untrusted network, OPSWAT's free Secure Virtual Desktop can help.

Secure Virtual Desktop requires no installation, so you can use it even when logged in with a non-Administrator account. You simply download the app and launch it. After an optional check for active malware, it switches into a secure version of the Windows desktop. Your regular desktop is still present; you can even switch back and forth.

When you're using the secure desktop, the only browser permitted is Internet Explorer, and it always runs in InPrivate browsing mode. Anything you save locally while using the secure desktop will vanish when the session ends. PrintScreen and printing in general isn't allowed. It also blocks access to network and removable drives. Apps running on the main desktop can't interact with secured apps. It even prevents copy/paste between the secure desktop and the regular desktop.

It's easy to see when you're in secure mode. The desktop background changes, all desktop icons vanish, and a small floating window with a shield icon indicates that you're in secure mode. Clicking a button in that floating window lets you switch back and forth between regular and secure desktops.

While Secure Private Desktop is not itself a Virtual Private Network (VPN) tool, OPSWAT promotes it as enhancing VPN security. During a secure session, your IP address is masked. I found that IP geolocation placed my test system in Georgia when it's really in California. That means Google and other sites that gather information associated with your IP address will be fooled.

Active Malware Check
I tried launching Secure Virtual Desktop on the twelve malware-infested test systems that I use for antivirus testing, to test the effectiveness of its pre-launch scan for active malware. It found some, but not all, of the active threats on half the systems, and warned that my secure session might conceivably be compromised. It erroneously reported no malware on three of the test systems, and failed to run properly on the other three. That quick scan for active malware is a nice idea, but it clearly doesn't actually detect all threats.

Facebook rolls out same-sex icons for gay marriage

Jeremy Hooper was the first to use the new same-sex marriage icon Facebook rolled out on Sunday. The writer, activist and author of the new book "If It's A Choice?" updated his Timeline over the weekend with his June 2009 Connecticut? marriage to healthcare CEO Andrew Shulman with a photo of the happy couple, and a two-groom, cake topper-style image.?

Before Sunday, gay Facebook users who wanted to indicate their marital status on the social network were relegated to the bride-and-groom, cake topper-style icon. The new Facebook icon choices ? two grooms or two brides ? allow gay newlyweds "to see themselves in the choices they make, and that means a lot," Allison Palmer, Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLADD) spokesperson, told msnbc.com.

Hooper's Timeline update with the new icon was soon followed by that of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, who married Sean Eldridge on Saturday.

Facebook's new icons come two weeks after Apple updated its iPhone operating system with gay and lesbian emojis ? texting and email emoticons ? featuring same-sex couples and families. The support also extended to an unlikely corner of the Web last week, on Oreo?s Facebook page. The cookie company posted a six-layered, rainbow-hued Oreo cookie to Facebook and Twitter. Unlike the concept cookie however, the Facebook icons actually exist.

Palmer said the addition of the same-sex marriage icons is the latest in Facebook's support of the LGBT community. In February 2011, the social network added civil unions and domestic partnerships to relationship status options. In 2010 Facebook, GLADD and other LGBT organizations created "Network of Support," the social network's initiative to combat cyberbullying and support LGBT teens. In June, Facebook received a GLADD media award for its support of the LGBT community.

While gay marriage is now recognized everywhere on Facebook via the new same-sex cake topper icons, it's still only legal in nine of the United States, and even in those states, gay married couples don't receive the same tax benefits as heterosexual married couples. Still, the visibility offered on Facebook can help pave the way for more gay rights in the future, said GLADD spokesperson Rich Ferraro.

"Facebook offers another platform where people can see same-sex couples are just as committed and loving? as any couple," Ferraro told msnbc.com. "People can see photos of families and come to realize we deserve the same opportunities to love and take care of each other."

While the new Facebook cake-topper offerings "are just a small icon, young adults can see that they too can hopefully have that opportunity to love and be happy in their future."
